RESPIRE
LAMP
Design by Ingrid Michel and Frédéric Pain
In contrast to the stillness of objects, we designed a piece whose form evolves like a breath. The mechanical movement—fluid and almost imperceptible—transforms the diffusion of light through Procédés Chenel’s Honey Comb paper, creating a play of shadows through the paper’s honeycomb-shaped openings.
With a soothing plum color on the outside, the piece opens to reveal a core of perforated white paper—the “perfo drop”—that glows in time with the breath.
“Respire” embodies the mechanism of breathing through its cycles of expansion and contraction.
Breathing humanizes the technical object and creates an immediate connection with the viewer. It invites the viewer to synchronize their own breath with its mechanical rhythm, creating a moment of calm.
Materials: Honeycomb paper and Perfo Drop paper from Procédés Chenel, articulated structure, motor, mechanism.
